Basketball – DII – Mimosa Minutemen Black vs. Cody Mattinglys: In an OT thriller, Mimosa Minutemen rose to the occasion earning themselves their first ever Intramural Championship. Led by PG Zach Eastham and big man Kelby Dowell, Mimosa was able to shutdown Greg Brook and company. Dowell led the floor by grabbing 24 total rebounds and finishing with 11 points. After the game we were able to get a word in from fellow Mimosa teammate Jedidiah Mounce, “We knew if we could get the ball inside against [Mattingly’s] defense that [Kelby] would be able to score easily, we stuck to the game plan and kept pushing each other to finish strong.”

Basketball – CoRec – WKU vs. Hypebeast – Keeping up with the drama, the CoRec final didn’t disappoint! All-Stars Whitney Reed and Novanda Thomas for team WKU made the difference on the floor to give WKU the win over Hypebeast. Reed and Thomas used their impression dribbling skills to beat several defenders to the hoop. “Those girls were unstoppable,” quoted from fellow teammate Kyle Westerfield, “I mean, the girls get more points when they score, so if I had an open shot I still gave the ball up to our girls because they were ballin’, and it and seemed to work well for our team.”

Basketball – Women – WKU Soccer vs. Too Legit – In a battle that went straight down to the end, WKU Soccer took our 1^st place honors by defeating Too Legit 30-29. In this defensive struggle, the zone defense used by WKU Soccer shut down all-pro ball handler Whitney Reed by only holding her to 6 points throughout the game. WKU Soccer definitely did their homework in scouting for this game, as the 2-3 zone defense kept Too Legit out of the paint. Uncharacteristic for this Too Legit squad was their low 3-point shooting percentage (17%!!) By only sinking three 3-pointers of the 17 shots taken from behind the arc, Too Legit had to find other ways to score, but to no avail.

Basketball – Men’s DI – Team WIN vs. Louisville Heat – All they do is WIN WIN WIN NO MATTER WHAT! That’s right; Team WIN took over in the 2^nd half of the final DI game of the season, giving them the edge of the Louisville Heat by a score of 44-42. After trailing by 7 at the half, veteran SG Kaulen Marlow and rising superstar Chris Dixson led Team WIN on a 13-3 run to open the 2^nd half and take the lead. “I just wanted the ball, I knew they couldn’t stop me,” said Marlow in our post-game interview. The Heat were able to pull within two points with a Hail Mary 3-pointer, but it was to no avail as the buzzer sounded, solidifying Team Win’s championship glory.

Basketball – Fraternity – EX Golden Glory vs. SAE Gold – In a hard fought battle that went down to the wire, EX surprised many of our spectators by taking a seven point lead early in the second half, captain Raymond Shears led all players in points with 15. Ten of those points coming in EX’s second half run to lead the game. Tyler Bruce of SAE struggled to find his rhythm all game, only going 2 of 15 from the floor and 2 of 5 from the free throw line to finish with 7 points. SAE’s Ben Hubbard and Jeff Anderson rose to the occasion though, lifting SAE to a one point lead in the final seconds of the game. EX’s Hayden had an opportunity to sink the game winning shot as time expired but fell just short of the rim to give SAE another championship photo with those prized red t-shirts.

Softball

Women’s – Dream Killers vs. AXiD – The Dream Killers had a solid performance out of their pitch Cassidy Crim to hold AXiD to only 2 runs the entire game. Crim also had the hot bat as well leading her team with 6 RBI’s and 3 runs herself to blowout AXiD 16-2. All-Star shortstop Shelby Elmore also went 4 for 4 at the plate, driving in 3 runs. Dream Killers anticipate a #1 seed position when the playoffs open.

Men – BCMpact vs. Red Sox – In a late night Wednesday matchup between these two squads, the Red Sox, a freshmen crew, came through with the W as they defeated BCM 9-1. Captain Kyle Baker led the lineup and the charge as he went 3-4 batting, all three hits being doubles. With two runners on, Tyler Washington jacks a bomb to centerfield, burning the CF of BCM to drive in both runs and him for an inside-the-park homerun. Watch out for these boys in the playoffs!

Well the school semester is winding down and so are our sports; the last registration open is corn hole which closes April 15^th, and takes place on the 20^th starting at 10am at the Preston Center. Be sure to get your teams signed up!

Soccer

ATO FC vs. FIJI Silver – In a matchup that had the potential of a championship game, ATO edged by FIJI Silver, shutting them out 1-0. Goalie Chase Utley recorded 7 saves to help his team advance through the bracket, giving him Player of the Week honors.

The Hat Tricks vs. Jamaican Hopscotch Mafia – The Hat Tricks could pull their usual tricks out versus an experienced Hopscotch team. This game went back and forth until the final 10 minutes when forward Jakob Bertram scored the tie-breaking goal. Giving his a 1-0 lead, The Hat Tricks were able to fight off a last minute push by Hopscotch to seal the victory.

Men’s Final: FC Mause vs. FIJI White – Coming down to a shootout, FC Mause outkicked the FIJI men in penalty kicks to win the Men’s Championship. Both goalies made incredible stops throughout regulation, but Josue Puga and Michael Rivera made the difference in PK’s to secure the championship. Dylan Ward for FIJI scored the sole goal for FIJI White. With a load of underclassmen returning for the FC Mause squad, look for a veteran team to be back next year and defend the title.

Women’s Final: AOPi vs. KD Green – In our Women’s soccer final featuring KD and AOPi, Megan Connally and Rebecca Garrison put on a clinic for AOPi defensively. These ladies kept the KD offense from making any push throughout the entire game. With AOPi leading 2-0 and only 3:34 remaining in the game, KD Green’s Katherine Rogers put the team on her back by scoring KD’s first goal of the night. But unfortunately for KD it was too little, too late as AOPi won the game 2-1. By winning the Soccer League Championship, AOPi pulls into 3^rd place in our All-University Point Standings, only trialing 2^nd place Chi Omega and 1^st place Kappa Delta.

Basketball

Men’s DII Semifinal: Mimosa Minutemen vs. Louisville Celtics – In this semifinal matchup, 2 undefeated teams took the court with no intentions of not making it to the championship game. Mimosa came out hot in the first half, point guard Zach Eastham dropped all 10 of his points in the first half and finished with 8 assists. Not to be outdone, Dontez Page from Louisville was a one-man wrecking crew, finishing with 17 points. However, the lack of depth on the Louisville bench ending up making 3 point difference as Mimsoa advances to our D2 final.

Fraternity Semifinal Preview: SAE Gold vs. FIJI Purple – In the first matchup between these 2 teams during the regular season, early foul trouble in the 2^nd half made the difference as FIJI defeated SAE by 10. This rematch won’t disappoint, SAE has revenge on their mind, as FIJI handed them their only loss of the season. Look for the leadership and athleticism of SAE to rebound back from an early loss and take this victory. Our Pick – SAE Gold

Women’s Semifinal Preview – WKU Soccer vs. Swag Attack – WKU Soccer dominated the entire regular season and has made light work of all their playoff opponents as well. Will Swag Attack prove to be any different? You better believe it! Rachel Rhodes and Samantha Dorsey of Swag Attack have the athleticism to compete with the WKU Soccer Squad. But like we’ve said all season long there’s a reason WKU Soccer has been Numero Uno all season long. Look for the soccer ladies to edge Swag Attack late in the game. Our Pick – WKU Soccer.

Raise your hand if your bracket is somewhere in a landfill right now. Yeah, us too. But don’t fret! We’re going to catch you up on all the intramural action that’s been taking place to take your mind of those Cinderella Stories.

Basketball

The #1 Seed from the Women’s Bracket, WKU Soccer, laid your typical #1 versus #8 smack-down last night against the Dream Team by having a mercy rule by the 2-minute mark.

From the Fraternity Basketball Bracket, both FIJI Purple and and Farmhouse mercy ruled their opponents to advance to the quarterfinal part of the bracket.  Manny Serrano from team Farmhouse did his best Steve Nash impression, draining 7 3-pointers and scoring an overall 27 points in the win. Farmhouse and FIJI Purple will face off next Thursday; the winner is to face the winner of KA Magic/SAE Gold, potential rematches lurking from the regular season in the semifinals.

First Round of CoRec games took place Tuesday with 4 teams advancing into the quarterfinals: Ballstars, Constantly, WKU, and Hyperbeast. All teams will be in action next Tuesday. Bold prediction: Look for team WKU to dish out some revenge after a close loss to SAE/KD in the regular season. Our prediction is WKU over SAE/KD, 55-48.

Soccer

I must say, we’re all pretty excited we’ve been able to play some soccer games this week. Our women’s bracket is down to the Elite 8 as Chi Omega leads the field as the #1 seed. Chi-O will face ADPi in their quarterfinal match-up. But ADPi has a true scoring threat in Hannah Murphy, so Chi-O should be on upset alert come Monday!

For the men’s bracket, a mix of well-rounded teams litter the playoff field as several teams try to fight their way through the first and second rounds of the bracket. Quarterfinal games will take place on Monday, narrowing down the field to our top 8 teams.

Wiffleball

In our Wiffleball Tournament, the KA Bombers took home 1st place honors as they defeated FIJI Purple in the finals.

Be sure to let your teammates and friends know that Softball Season will start Wednesday April 3rd! Registration for the 5K Bunny Hop and 3-Point/2Ball contest are still open until Monday, be sure to sign up!

Finishing up the year we’ll have our 4v4 Flag Football Tournament, registration opens Monday April 1st. Handball will also open for registration on April 1st as well. Finishing out the semester we will be hosting a Cornhole Tournament! Registration for Cornhole opens up April 8th. Here are the start/event dates for our remaining sports!
