Doubles Badminton Preview

Hope all of our followers are staying warm today! Inside the Preston Center things are certainly going to heat up with Badminton starting this Saturday at 10am sharp. Let’s take a look at some of the key match-ups.

FIJI Purple vs. Pike – Eric Jones leads Pike into battle against a talented FIJI duo.  Expect Pike to hold their own in the first 2 matches, but in the end we’ll see FIJI Purple marching on. Prediction: FIJI Purple

KA Christian/Carr vs. PiKe D’sz – Don’t let the seeding fool you. Anticipate a high-scoring, fast-pace slug fest, except with racquets and shuttle birds. The skill level of these two squads will not disappoint, but expect PiKe to walk away as the victors. Prediction: PiKe D’sz

Chio O-Williamson vs. Phi Mu – In our female league, no 1st round match up quite compares to Chi-O taking on Phi Mu. Our experts tell us that the winner of this match has great odds of facing off against Kappa Delta later in bracket play. Speaking of those KD ladies, are any of the teams going to be able to knock off our All-University Points leader? Look forward to a Chi O/KD battle in the semis. Prediction: Chi O-Williamson

Upset Alert: Keep your eyes peeled for the team Broken Glass from our men’s bracket to make a strong run deep into bracket play. These guys have been practicing like crazy. I’m pretty sure all 15 of their credit hours this semester are spent in the Preston Center with the Badminton class (but seriously). Will Broken Glass have what it takes to run the table and take home the champion shirts?

Next week we’ll recap badminton and give you our preseason rankings for basketball. Adios Topper Nation.
